Karl Ash Obituary

Karl E. Ash, 77, of Fishing Creek Township, died early Wednesday morning, September 15th, 2021 at his home.

Born August 22, 1944 at the Bloomsburg Hospital, he was a son of the late Victor F. Ash, who died February 1, 1992 and Josephine A. (Hess) Ash, who died July 9, 2011.  He and his wife, Joan T. (Ridall) Ash, would have celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary on September 22nd.

Karl was a 1962 graduate of Benton High School.  Growing up on the family   farm, he farmed in his early years.  For over 32 years he was employed by True Value Hardware Store in Benton at L & K Mills, until the store closed.

He served his country in the National Guard, the 109th Battalion, Berwick.

Karl was a member of the Town Hill United Methodist Church where he sang in the church choir.  Previously, he was a long time member of the former Asbury United Methodist Church where he was an adult Sunday School Class teacher for many years.

He served on the Benton Area School Board and was president 1981-1982.  He also served on the Columbia Montour Vocational Technical School Board representing Benton.  He was also a Republican Committeeman for Fishing Creek Township.

An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, cutting firewood and growing sweet corn.  He also had a unique ink pen collection.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, Joan, are his children:  Leonard J. Ash and his wife, Carolyn, of Oakland, California; Lyle J. Ash, of China; Karl E. Ash, Jr., of Pittsburgh and Seth R. Ash and his wife, Jillian, of Parrish, Florida.  Also surviving are seven grandchildren:  Ethan, Samuel, Brienna, Wyatt, Violet, Ingrid and Graham; his twin sister, Karen Hess and her husband, Gary, of Orangeville; and a sister, Barbara Birt, of Nisbet, PA.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Amandy Strzempek on March 31, 2013 and by a sister, Marie Gordner.

A Viewing will be held Friday, September 17th, 2021 from 2 PM until the time of the Funeral Service at 4 PM at the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., 4394 Red Rock Road, Benton (State Route 487).  Pastor Tyler Rauhauser, Town Hill United Methodist Church, will officiate.  The family requests that masks be worn.  Private burial will be at the convenience of the family in the Jonestown Cemetery.
