Kenneth G. Schlegel, 84, of Benton Township, died Sunday, October 15, 2023 at the Gardens at Orangeville.

Born May 11, 1939 in Oley, Berks County, he was a son of the late  Stanley F. Schlegel and Elsa "Elsie" (Barlet) Schlegel Musser.  He and his wife, Joan M. (McGlade) Schlegel, celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on September 1st.

Ken was a graduate of Oley High School and attended UCLA.  He served his country in the U. S. Marine Corps.

Ken was an accomplished plumber and electrician and worked for J. Nevin  Hartman of Benton for 10 years; Design Homes of Bloomsburg; Gorcey Plumbing and Heating and Mobile Chemical, both while living in New Jersey.  

He lived in the Benton area since 1991 and  had previously lived in Orangeville and before that in New Jersey.  Ken was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.  

Surviving, in addition to his wife, Joan, are his four children:  Denise Conte,   of Bayville, NJ; Kenneth G. Schlegel, Jr., of Bloomsburg; Michael T. Schlegel, of Breinigsville; and Renee A.  Simpson, and her husband, Harvey Simpson, Jr., of Berwick;  ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.  Also surviving are his siblings:  Sheila Drey, George Musser and his wife, Mary; Terry Musser and  Marilyn Herr and numerous nieces and  nephews. 

Along with his parents, he was preceded  in death  by a granddaughter, Meghan Schlegel; a brother, Stanley Patterson and a sister, Alice Hurst. 

Private viewing and services will be held at the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., Benton with Pastor Scott Lyons, Stillwater Christian Church, officiating.
