Lawrence R. "Larry" Brittain, 75, of Benton, died Tuesday morning, March 1st, 2022 at his home
Born February 8, 1947 in Huntington Township, Luzerne County, he was a son of the late Lawrence Roger Brittain and Elda Mae (Stout) Brittain. He and his wife, Mary L. (Knecht) Brittain, would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on June 29th.
Larry was a 1966 graduate of Northwest Area High School and was employed by Penn-DOT as a mechanic supervisor until his retirement in 2002.
He faithfully served his country in the U. S. Army in the Vietnam War and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Sharpshooter Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and 2 Overseas Bars.
Larry was a life member of the Benton V. F. W. and the Shickshinny American Legion.
He was better known to most people and his brothers and sisters as "Pop". He was a loving husband, father, grandfather ("Poppy") and great grandfather.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, Mary, are his three children: Christina Brittain, Bloomsburg; Jodi Birster and her husband, Stephen, of Lightstreet; Lawrence R. Brittain, Jr. and his wife, Jessica, of Bloomsburg; seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren; his eight siblings: Marie Bovsun, of Steelton; Loretta Benjamin, of Bloomsburg; Alberta Ridall, of Bloomfield, NY; Roger Brittain, of Benton; Becky Eisenhauer, of Berwick; Clarence Brittain, of Mesa, Arizona; Susie Davenport, of Huntington Mills; Martin Brittain, of Berwick and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life and Military Honors will be held Wednesday, March 16th, 2022 at 11 AM at the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., 4394 Red Rock Road, Benton.
