Loretta (Strauch) Lamerand Hiscox, 80, died in Port St. Lucie, FL on September 5, 2020 while her daughter was visiting with her.
Loretta was originally from Benton, the daughter of the late Harold E. and Gladys (Fritz)Strauch. She graduated from Benton High School in 1958 and then attended Nesbitt Nursing School. For the next few years, she worked in the Catskills of NY state which is where she met her first husband, the late Marvin Lamerand. Together they had three children. In the mid 1970’s she moved back to Benton to live and attended Bloomsburg State College to continue her nursing degree. 33 years ago, she was reunited with her high school sweetheart, Bill Hiscox. She then moved to Florida where he lived, and they were married. She spent the last 3 decades with her husband traveling the world, visiting with family and friends and enjoying life together until his passing last year.
Loretta spent much of her life helping others and doing volunteer work. She taught English to immigrants, tutored for Citizenship tests, she volunteered at the Martin County Literacy program, the Salvation Army, local food banks and her church. She was recognized and honored by her local church association for her many years of work with the poor.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, Bill Hiscox in July of 2019. She is survived by her three children: Scott Lamerand and his wife Suzanne of Collegeville, PA; Mike Lamerand and his wife Tammy of Duluth, MN; Wendy Houck and her husband Ken of Unityville, PA; a step-son, Steve Hiscox and his wife Lan, of Houston, TX; 7 grandchildren: Danny and Kristi Houck; Sydney and Seth Lamerand; Tiffany Ernst, Joey and Nick Lamerand; 2 great grandchildren; 2 brothers and 4 sisters: Ronald C. Strauch and his wife, Alice; Gary K. Strauch and his wife, Alice; Sally Bergstrom and her husband, John; Heather Strauch; Betsy Strauch and Patti Strauch as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 3rd, 2020 at 10:30 AM at the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., Benton with Father Olusola Adewole of Christ The King Catholic Church,Benton, officiating. Burial will follow in the Waller Memorial Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 10 AM until the time of the Service at McMichael's. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Waller Memorial Hall following the services. The McMichael Funeral Home, Inc. is honored to serve the Strauch/Hiscox Family.
