Mary Ann (Finney) Chonko, 69, of rural Benton (Sugarloaf Township), died Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born January 5, 1953 in Luzerne, she was a daughter of the late Eugene C. and Verna R. (Amos) Finney. She and her husband, Wayne A. Chonko, Sr., would have celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary on March 6th.
Mary Ann attended Luzerne High School. She had been employed by Canteen Vending at Heinz in Bloomsburg for many years and had also done custodial work at various banks and offices in the Benton area.
She attended the Raven Creek Presbyterian Church and also enjoyed volunteering at the Raven Creek Trading Post.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, Wayne, are her two sons: Wayne A. Chonko, Jr., of Benton and Jeremy Chonko, of Benton; a grandson, Adam James Chonko; her three sisters: Elizabeth Glycenfer, of Courtdale, PA: Peggy Nork, of Nanticoke; Nancy Eppley of Wilkes-Barre; a step sister, Elizabeth Mahalick, of New Jersey and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons: Joshua Chonko on March 9, 2017 and Jason Chonko on March 31, 2000; deceased brothers: Eugene Finney, Jr., Donald Finney, Sherman Finney and John Finney and a step sister, Irene Gildea.
Graveside Services will be held Tuesday, September 27th, 2022 at 11 AM at the Raven Creek Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Ronald Shellhamer, officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, 1818 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103.
