Myrna Scherer Obituary

Myrna Eileen (Mott) Scherer, 86, known as Eileen, to friends and family, died unexpectedly on September 4, 2022 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre.

Eileen was born on February 23, 1936 in Fairmount Township, the seventh of seven children to Linden D. and Sarah O. (Downing) Mott.  She attended a one-room schoolhouse and Huntington Mills High School.

Following graduation in 1954, she worked in the dining room at The Inn at Buck Hill Falls in the Pocono Mountains, where she met her husband of 65 years, Ronald “Pete” Scherer.  Eileen and Pete married in November 1956 and moved to the Huntington Mills area in 1957 to begin raising their family.

Eileen was active in the Town Hill United Methodist Church, where she played organ and piano, sang in the choir, volunteered in the kitchen and served on numerous committees.   She loved to travel and led the Town Hill "Over 50 Travel Group", organizing numerous trips throughout the US and several other countries.

As her friends and families know, Eileen worked as the secretary to the elementary principal at the Huntington Elementary School from 1975 – 2004. Connections with family and friends were important to Eileen, and she kept in touch with friends and relatives both near and far.  Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Along with her  parents, Eileen was preceded in death by her infant daughter Ellen in 1963, and by her brothers:  A. Jay Mott, Leonard Mott, and Gale Mott; and sisters:Lorraine Stookey and Hilda Sheerer.
