Nathan McKenzie Obituary

Nathan Miles McKenzie, entered into the gates of heaven Monday, August 27th, 2018 unexpectedly at his home.
 
Nate was born July 28, 1947 at Geisinger Hospital, Montour County, Danville, to Charles T. and Betty J. (Sieler) McKenzie.  He attended Orangeville School through 8th grade, and Central Columbia for grades 9 to 12.  He went to Bloomsburg State College and graduated in 1969, but continued his education to achieve a Master's Degree in Elementary Education.  For 35 years, he taught in the Northwest Area School District at both Huntington Mills Elementary and Hunlock Creek Elementary Schools.
 
Nate is survived by his wife, Nancy M. (Busch) McKenzie; a son, Brandon C. McKenzie and his wife, Santana Austin, of Ohio; and daughter, Kathleen L. McKenzie.
 
Nate has been an artisan of long rifles, powder horns, and other eighteenth century gear ever since he built his first long rifle at the age of 22.  He is a life member of the NRA and  a member of the CLA.  He has regularly attended seminars at Dixons Gun Makers Fair in Kempton, Pennsylvania since its inception.  His work was also well received at the Eighteenth Century Artisans Show in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania.  He was published in "American Tradition:  The Journal of the Contemporary Longrifle Associations" - Volume 10, No. 2, Summer 2018.  Nate also did Revolutionary War, Civil War, and WWII living history programs for historical societies and other organizations.
 
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with burial in the Dodson Cemetery at Southdale.
