Nicholas DeVries Obituary

Nicholas DeVries, 89, of Davidson Township, Sullivan County, died Sunday morning, January 3, 2021 at Bonham Nursing Center, Stillwater.

Born February 10, 1931 in Ridgewood, New Jersey, Bergen County, he was a son of the late Klaus and Jennie (Schaeffer) DeVries.  He and his wife, Diana H. (Gryskiewicz) DeVries, would have celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary on March 24th.

Mr. DeVries attended school in Warwick, New York.  He worked as a dairy farmer for 45 years in Warwick, New York and following his retirement did landscaping and was also a volunteer for Hospice.

He was a member of the Bible Baptist Church of Benton  He was also a member of the Dairy Farmers Association and the Eastern Milk Producer's Association.

Mr. DeVries enjoyed his work as a farmer; he also enjoyed sports, including softball and basketball.  An avid outdoorsman, he liked to garden and tend to his flowers and sold the extra vegetables from his garden.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Diana, are his three children:  Dale Wilkins and husband, Gary, of Newton, NJ; Nicholas DeVries and wife, Carolyn, of Warwick, NY; Cyndi DeVries, of Seabring, FL; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; five step children:  Diana Lee Paulison, of St. Petersburg, FL; Judy Sauter, of Myrtle Beach, SC; Nancy Paulison, of Whippany, NJ; Gerald B. Paulison, Jr. and wife, Beth, of Colorado Springs, CO: Janet Preiser and husband, Tom, of Manahawkin, NJ; six step grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Jennie DeVries, of New York and numerous nieces and nephews.  

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Lydia (Delver) DeVries, who died in 1994 and three siblings:  Henry, John and Jennie.  

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, January 7th, 2021 at 12 Noon at the Bible Baptist Church, 250 Shickshinny Road, Benton, with the Rev. Paul S. Moseley, Sr., his Pastor, officiating.  Viewing, Thursday from 11 AM until the time of the service at noon at the Church.  Burial will be in the Warwick Cemetery, Warwick, New York.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Bible Baptist Church of Benton, 250 Shickshinny Road, Benton, PA 17814.
