Rev. Dr. David Mansfield Obituary

Rev. Dr. David A. Mansfield went to be home with his Lord on October 15, 2025. Born November 30, 1951, in Washington, PA, he was the son of the late Raymond and Marilyn Mansfield.

David responded to the gospel at age 14 and became a committed follower of Jesus. He graduated from California Area High School in 1970. He had a definite call to ministry which he pursued by going to Mt Vernon Bible College, Mt Vernon, Ohio, where he received a bachelor degree in Bible and Missions. Following Bible college David attended California University of Pennsylvania and earned a bachelor degree in Speech and Communication Media. Sensing a call to overseas ministry, David attended the Institute for International Studies at Wheaton College, Wheaton, Illinois, the summer of 1975. There he met Cathy Schroer who was also pursuing a calling in overseas missions. They became engaged at a Intervarsity Urbana Missions Conference January 1976, and were married on June 25th, 1977.

Desiring to serve God internationally they were led to the Salvation Army in Zambia, Africa where David would operate a recording studio for preparing religious broadcasts for the Zambian Broadcasting Services, and Cathy taught in the secondary school at Chickankata Mission. They served in Zambia for six years, expanding the ministry to radio programs for Transworld Radio in South Africa and film evangelism using the Jesus film. Their two sons Timothy and John were born in Zambia.

Upon returning home to western PA the Mansfields sought God’s leading and received a call to pastor the First Christian Church in Carmichaels, PA which they served for eight years. While there David went to Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry and received his Master of Divinity degree. The Mansfields then went to the Huntsville Christian Church in Dallas, PA and served there for ten years. While there David earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from the Lutheran Theological Seminary of Philadelphia. In 2002 they moved back to western PA to be near David’s parents and served the Fairhill Manor Christian Church in Washington, PA for eight years. Later, he became Pastor of the Benton Christian Church, in Benton, PA for nearly eleven years until his retirement April 11, 2021.

David also served as a chaplain at Western Center State Hospital, Canonsburg, PA, Manor Care and Rehabilitation Center in Kingston, PA, White Haven State Hospital, White Haven, PA and Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, PA.

Some of David’s hobbies and pastimes that he enjoyed were photography, fishing and woodworking.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Cathy (Schroer) Mansfield; his two sons, Tim Mansfield (Joy) of Rushford, NY and John Mansfield (Erin) of Hunlock Creek; and four grandsons, Matt Chris, Noah, and Logan.
