Rev. Walter E. Minto, Sr., 92, of Jackson Township, died Wednesday morning, November 24, 2021 at his home.
Born May 27, 1929 in Ginter, PA he was a son of the late Lewis and Florence (Rickard) Minto. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Rita L. (Eaton) Minto, on December 17, 2018.
Rev. Minto was a 1947 graduate of Altoona High School and then attended the Altoona Bible Institute. He later was a graduate of Cairn University (Philadelphia Bible Institute); Syracuse University; Paterson State University and New Paltz University.
He was the founding pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church in Bloomsburg and the Harmony Baptist Church in New York. He had also pastored the following churches: Digton Baptist Church in Massachusetts; Gonic Baptist Church in New Hampshire; Vernon Baptist Church in New York and the Christian Gospel Fellowship in Millville.
Rev. Minto was a member of the Bible Baptist Church of Benton and also attended Jackson Baptist Church, Derrs.
Surviving, are his five sons: Joel Minto and his wife, Gwen, of Lancaster; David L. Minto, of Benton; Robert Minto and his wife, Monica, of Gettysburg; Rev. Walter E. Minto, Jr. and his wife, Laurie, of Bloomsburg; Daniel Minto and his wife, Yuan, of Wake Forest, NC. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, November 29, 2021 at 11 A. M. at the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., 4394 Red Rock Road, Benton (S. R. 487) with his son, the Rev. Walter E. Minto, Jr., officiating. Burial will be in the Waller Cemetery. A Viewing will be held Monday from 10 AM until the time of the Service at 11 at McMichael's. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Bible Baptist Church of Benton, 250 Shickshinny Road, Benton, PA 17814.
