Ronald L. John, 83, of rural Orangeville, died Sunday, August 14th, 2022 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, surrounded by his family.
Born October 3, 1938 in Benton Township, he was a son of the late Samuel Edgar John, who died February 9, 1961 and Mildred L. (Morris) John, who died May 26, 2006. He and his wife, Gail D. (Lechleitner) John, celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary on July 9th.
Ron attended Benton Schools and then enlisted in the U. S. Army, where he faithfully served his country during the Vietnam War. He attained the rank of Sergeant, First Class, 101st Airborne Division.
He retired from the Benton Foundry after 30 plus years of service and then was employed by Van Houten Farms, Joe O'Neil's Excavating, Sokol Quarries and Tom Bowman Trucking where he had worked since 2010 until the time of his death.
Very active in civic and community affairs, he was a life member of the Orangeville Fire Company, a member of the Benton Fire Company and the North Mountain Fire Company. He also served as a fire police captain for Orangeville and was also a member of the Benton fire police. He was a police officer for Benton Borough years ago. He was also a member of the Orangeville Sportsmen's Club.
An avid outdoorsman, Ron enjoyed hunting, mowing his lawn and riding his motorcycle. He especially enjoyed the Legion Riders and the Camp Victory Motorcycle Rides each year.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, Gail, are his three children: Randy L. Girton and his wife, Janelle, of East Greenville; Michael L. John and his wife, Kathy, of Orangeville; Michele L. DiFebo and her husband, Gary, of Bloomsburg; two step sons: Shannon R. Brittain and his wife, Marian, of Berwick; Shayne R. Brittain and his wife, Cari, of Dallas, PA; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; six step grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; a brother, David Earl John and his wife, Melodie, of Berwick; numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Carol Stackhouse and his brother-in-law, Bob Stackhouse.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, August 19th, 2022 at 11 AM at the Stillwater Christian Church, 39 McMichael Street, Stillwater, with Pastor Scott L. Lyons, officiating. Viewing, Friday from 9 AM until the time of the Service at the Church. Burial will be in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge with Military Honors.
