Ross Hess Obituary

Ross H. Hess, 90, of Orangeville, died early Thursday morning, November 28th, 2019 at the Gardens at Orangeville Nursing Home.

Born January 2, 1929 in Jonestown, he was a son of the late Harmon R. and Vida (Creveling) Hess.  He and his beloved wife, Ethel M. (Remphrey) Hess, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on August 27th. 

Mr. Hess was a 1947 graduate of Benton High School where he played baseball and was a well-known pitcher.  He also played baseball in the North Branch League.   

He worked as a car salesman for Hartzell/Liberty Chevrolet of Bloomsburg for 31 years.  From 1955 to 1959 they lived in Colorado, where Ross worked as a mechanic. 

He was an active member of the Lightstreet United Methodist Church where he served as a trustee and sang in the church choir.

Mr. Hess was a member of Oriental Lodge, No. 260, F. & A. M., of Orangeville and the Caldwell Consistory, of Bloomsburg.

His hobbies included woodworking, fishing, hunting and traveling.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, Ethel, are his daughter, Kathy Arner and her husband, James, of Millville; a daughter-in-law, Penny J. Hess, of Orangeville; five grandchildren:  Derrick, Jeremy, Justin, Lori, and Grant; seven great granddaughters:  Alicia, Katie, Haylee, Mikayla, Abigael, Madison and Violet.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gary R. Hess on October 31, 2019 and by a brother, Albert Hess and a sister, Ellyn Stauffer.

Services and Masonic Services will be held Friday, December 6th, 2019 at 11 AM at the Lightstreet United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Jennifer Parks-Snyder, his pastor, officiating.  A Visitation will be held Friday morning from 10:30 until the time of the service at 11:00 at the Church.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Lightstreet United Methodist Church, 1640 Main Street, Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
