Roy A. Evarts

Roy A. Evarts, 90, formerly of Benton, died early Saturday morning, November 30, 2024 at the Souderton Mennonite Home, Montgomery County.

Born October 29, 1934 in Trucksville, Luzerne County, he was a son of the late Alfred and Susan (Shouldice) Evarts.  He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Lorna M. (Gibbs) Evarts, on April 11, 2015.

Roy was a graduate of Lehman High School and attended East Stroudsburg University for two years.  He faithfully served his country in the U. S. Air Force.

Roy was a well known area dairy farmer and also owned and operated Evarts Jug Milk in Benton; he later worked in construction, and then was the general manager at the Buckhorn Truck Stop for many years.  He was last employed as the facilities manager for the Benton Job Corps, until his retirement.  

He was a founding member of the Benton High School Wrestling Boosters Club and the Fishing Creek Landowners Association.

Roy enjoyed auto racing, high school and college football and wrestling.  An avid outdoorsman, he also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Surviving are his two daughters:  Julie Evarts Conner and her husband, Craig, of Boise, Idaho; Janet Evarts Snead and her husband, Gerald, of Pennsburg, PA: three grandchildren:  Megan Roberts, Sean Conner and Alexander Snead; six great grandchildren and a sister, Mary Young, and her husband, Bennie, of Stillwater.

Memorial Services will  be held Saturday, April 19, 2025 at 10 AM at the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., 4394 Red Rock Road, Benton.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer's Association, 2595 Interstate Drive, Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA   17110.  The McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., of Benton, is honored to serve the Evarts Family.
