Shirley J. (Hummel) Kershner, 91, died early Wednesday morning, July 31, 2024 at Bonham Nursing Center, Stillwater, where she had been a resident since 2019.
Born October 30, 1932 in Berwick, she was a daughter of the late John and Flo (Sitler) Hummel. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William F. "Bill" Kershner, on December 3, 1993.
Shirley was a 1951 graduate of Berwick High School. She had been employed by the Jacoby Agency in Berwick and the former Clewell Creamery in Berwick. She later worked for Milco Industries in Benton for 34 years, retiring in 1995.
She was a member of the Town Hill United Methodist Church. Her hobbies included crocheting, needlework and puzzle books. She loved her canine friends and she was known to be a huge John Wayne fan.
Surviving are her son-in-law, Edward P. Ruckel, of Shickshinny; a grandson, William E. Ruckel and his wife, Wendy, of Thornhurst and a granddaughter, Ashten Ruckel, of Thornhurst.
Along with her parents and her husband, William "Bill", she was preceded in death by her daughter, Debra J. Ruckel on March 14, 2024; a grandson, Edward P. Ruckel, Jr. on March 10, 1974 and a brother, Nelson "Bud" Hummel on September 24, 2002.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
