Sophia K. (Bolek) Bond, 96,
of Benton, died Saturday morning, June 5th, 2021 at the Gardens at Orangeville,
where she had been a resident since December 30th, 2019.
Born May 11, 1925 in
Wanamie (Newport Township), she was a daughter of the late Michael and Mary Bolek. She was preceded in death by her beloved
husband of 63 years, Ivan E. Bond, on April 27, 2006.
Mrs. Bond had worked a
short time for the former Dockey Shirt Factory in Benton and Consolidated Cigar
Corporation in Berwick. She had also
done baby-sitting for many of the neighborhood children.
She was a member of the
Benton United Methodist Church and the Benton V. F. W. Ladies Auxiliary.
Mrs. Bond enjoyed being a
homemaker and known for her cooking, baking and crafts.
Surviving are her four
children: Carolyn Jones and her husband,
Ross, of Texarkana, Texas; Patricia Threlkeld and her husband, Dennis, of
Orangeville; Deborah Gordon and her husband, Walter, Jr., of Benton; Kenneth Bond
and his wife, Kathy, of Millville. Also surviving
are ten grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
She was the last of her
immediate family being preceded in death by thirteen siblings. Along with her parents, and husband, Ivan,
she was also preceded in death by a great grandson, Josh Jones.
Funeral Services for the
family will be held Friday at 10 AM at the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., 4394
Red Rock Road, Benton with Pastor Scott Lyons, officiating. At her request there will be no public viewing.
Burial will be in the Benton Cemetery. In
lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the American Cancer
Society, Columbia County Unit, 1948 East Third Street, Williamsport, PA 17701.
