Virginia Mae (Marr) Temple, 87, of State Route 487, Benton, (Sugarloaf Township) passed away peacefully Monday morning, October 16, 2023 at the Gardens at Orangeville, with her family by her side. She had been a resident there since August.
Born July 16, 1936 in Bloomsburg, she was a daughter of the late Ezekiel and Ruth (Lenhart) Marr. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Stanley W. Temple, on November 24, 2014.
Virginia ("Ginger") was a graduate of Benton High School, Class of 1954. She was a member of the former Brandon United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Ladies Aide Society of the Church. She was also a member of the Benton Garden Club and a long time member of the Benton V. F. W. Auxiliary. She sat on the Board of Elections for Sugarloaf Township and was awarded a certificate for her faithful service to Sugarloaf Township as a Volunteer Ambulance Personnel; she prepared the funnel cake and corn dog batters used at the North Mountain Carnival to support the Fire Company for many years. She also volunteered at the Sugarloaf Fish Suppers that benefited the local churches.
She had been employed at Benton Wood Products.
Virginia was very artistic and enjoyed spending her time sketching and tole painting. She has many works of art that will be treasured by her family forever. She was a "green thumb" and nurtured a beautiful garden of vegetables and flowers yearly. Virginia was an excellent cook and baker. Most of all, she will be known for being a loving mother, grandmother and wife.
Surviving, are her three daughters: Shirley E. Eyerly and her husband, Charles, Jr., of Stillwater; Brenda J. Fritz and her husband, Kerry, of Benton; Mary Ellen Freed, Stillwater; three grandchildren: Danielle Deitrick, Colton Eyerly and Shawn Freed; two great grandchildren: Addix Eyerly and Olivia Deitrick, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and her husband, Stanley, she was preceded in death by siblings: George Marr, Marvin Marr, Harold Eugene Marr and Mary Marr Fink.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 23rd, 2023 at 12 Noon at the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., 4394 Red Rock Road, Benton (S. R. 487) with the Rev. Howard W. Leh, officiating. The Benton V. F. W. Auxiliary will also conduct services. Burial will be in St. Gabriel's Cemetery, Sugarloaf Township. A Viewing will be held Monday from 11 AM until the time of the Service at 12 noon at McMichael's.
