Wayne Hess, 86, of Benton, died Monday morning, February 19, 2024 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born September 22, 1937 in Benton, he was a son of Thomas R. Hess, who died May 20, 1952 and Helen G. (Sherwood) Hess, who died October 17, 2005.
Wayne was a graduate of Benton High School. His working career was spent in the restaurant software business and was employed by the Micros Company, until his retirement in 1996.
An avid golfer, he had been a member of the Mill Race Golf Course in Benton, for many years. Wayne played baseball for Benton High School and also for the former local Tri-County Baseball League. He also enjoyed hunting and was an avid fan of Duke Basketball and the St. Louis Cardinals.
Surviving are his two children: Jamie S. Hess, and his wife, Joan of Erie, Colorado; Lori S. Hess, of Grand Junction, Colorado; four grandchildren: Jeremy, Felisha, Juliana, and Jennifer; three great grandchildren: Reese, William and Harvey; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as his longtime companion, Becky Green, of Benton.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin brother, James R. Hess in 1938 in infancy and by two sisters: Carrie Whitenight and Maxine Stine.
Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family at the Waller Cemetery at a later date. The McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., of Benton, is honored to serve the Hess family.
