William E."Bill" Chewning, Sr., 90, of Huntington Mills, died Friday, July 7, 2023 at his home. Born in Bensalem on January 22, 1933, he was a son to the late Samuel and Gertrude (Cole) Chewning.
Mr. Chewning attended Central Bucks Schools. On May 4, 1956, he wed the love of his life, the former Emily F. Goetter. Together, they raised their family and shared 62 years of marriage. Bill had been a mechanic at Schiele's Garage for most of his career, retiring in 1990. He enjoyed spending time outdoors; hunting, fishing, and maintaining his property. He was a motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed weekly rides with his family. Bill was a member of the Branch Valley Fish, Game, & Forestry Association, where he had proven himself to be a talented trap shooter. He also enjoyed model building, especially covered wagon models.
Bill is survived by his children: Larry Hawk, Jr. and wife, Cindy, of Doylestown, Brenda Nadal and partner, Tom Michaels, of Souderton, William Chewning, Jr. and partner, Paula Burnett, of Doylestown, and Susan Hoyt of Huntington Mills; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and sister, Isabelle Bauso of Bristol.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Emily F. (Goetter) Chewning, who passed away October 30, 2018, and siblings: Edgar Chewning, Arthur Chewning, Marion DeLisa, Bernice Grafenstine, and Dorothy Angelo.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 3 PM at Town Hill United Methodist Church, 417 Town Hill Road, Shickshinny, PA 18655. Pastor Tyler Rauhauser will officiate. Memorial contributions in Bill's name may be made to the SPCA of Luzerne County, 524 E Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
